From Religious Nationalism to Religious Pluralism observers the entire Balkan Peninsula represents a typical case of religious nationalism. According to political scientist Barbara-Ann Rieffer, “religious nationalism is the fusion of nationalism and religion such that they are inseparable” (Barker, 2009, 13).

Pluralism of Religions or Pluralism based on Neutrality?From my point of view, two different understandings for how to achieve tolerance, peace and justice in society and beyond have been operative in Europe (cf. Schweitzer, 1999, 2005). In an abbreviated manner, I refer to them respectively as models of “pluralism of religions” on the one hand and “pluralism based on neutrality” on the other.
