The Quantum Hall Effect: From Integral to Fractional, from Two Dimensional to Three Dimensional,This lecture reviews some recent developments in the experimental aspects of the quantum Hall effect (QHE) such as the observation of the integral QHE in quasi three-dimensional systems, the magnetic field dependence of the energy gaps in the fractional QHE and the absence of even-denominator quantization in the lowest Landau level.

The goal of this lecture is to explore further the FQHE with emphasis on the nature of the collective excitation modes and the origin of the gap.
