Intelligent knowledge based system developmentdge base, a tool called EMYCIN (empty MYCIN) was developed. In the 1970s a number of other IKBSs appeared, for example: PROSPECTOR for mineral exploration; OPS5, a tool for IKBS building; RI for the configuration of DEC computer equipment.

This will allow us to examine and classify failure mechanisms and to describe symptoms of incipient failure. We shall then consider the process of condition monitoring by technique, measurement and data acquisition.
