Dopamine-Mediated Dephosphorylation of N/P-Type Calcium Channels in Striatal Neurons: A Quantitativined actions (Cuthbertson et al., 1996). We combine kinetic analyses and computer modeling in order to evaluate further the intracellular pathways in striatal principal neurons (K?tter, 1994; K?tter et al., 1996) that lead from dopamine receptor activation to the modulation of calcium currents (Bargas et al., 1994).

Influence of Calcium Binding to Proteins on Calcium Oscillations and ER Membrane Potential Oscillattionary messenger concentrations (Berridge, 1989). Another advantage is that a pulsatile signal can carry two types of information: a digital signal (oscillation or stationarity) acting as a switch, for example, between two modes of metabolism, and an analogue signal which may determine the flux of some metabolic pathway (Cuthbertson, 1989).

Information Processing in Computational Tissues,Physically they are composed of large, regular arrays of interconnected switches so that their component parts can interact in strictly controlled ways. This arrangement, called ., [Con85], gives computers the capability of simulating one symbol processing machine on another. The primary way of performing this simulation is recursion and sequence.

Signalling and Communication an Introduction to Section 1,mics of the network model, which may be viewed as a singularly perturbed system, and discuss the model from a thermodynamic viewpoint. Finally, they outline how perturbation techniques can be used to study the steady state properties of the network and comment upon the relevance of our results to pattern formation.
