In the ELSET. demonstrator for the RACE 2052 MONA LISA project [1] such a subsystem drives a virtual camera to generate a synthesized 3-D background that moves in sympathy with the motion of the real camera.

Joint Estimation of depth maps and camera motion in the Construction of 3D Models from a Mobile CameLISA project. Input to the system is a sequence of images taken by a standard CCD camera. The camera motion is unknown. The output is a facet model that can be exploited for image synthesis of virtual viewpoints. In this paper, emphasis is placed on the image sequence processing for the estimation of both depth maps and camera motion.
