Prospective Technologies for Hydrogen Productionking process. To reach full potential, the thermal cracking processes depend on taking credit for the clean carbon fuel by-product. As the cost of oil and gas inevitably increases in the next several decades, emphasis will be placed on processes making use of the worlds reserve of coal.

Mass Storage of Hydrogen natural gas fields provide capacities of the order of 100 to 1000 million m.. This paper gives a technical description of both types of underground storage and illustrates the economic case for future hydrogen utilizations with two examples: annual storage in aquifers and daily storage in salt cavities.

Applications of Hydridescations have been demonstrated on a prototype level, but only temperature sensors and hydride batteries are really commercially successful to date. The reasons for the failure of some hydride applications will be discussed in relationship to shortcomings in available hydriding alloys and the R&D needed to overcome those shortcomings.

Hydrogen Fueled Transportationthe development of the infrastructure necessary for the services for its vehicular usage. Safety is not the problem it is perceived to be by the public. Hydrogen may well play a highly significant role in surface transportation (including rail), and is destined to play a dominant one in high speed air travel.
