The NIADDK Hormone Distribution Programng why animal growth hormone would not work in humans. Because human pituitaries were then the only source of hGH, many individual efforts were mounted around the country to collect human pituitaries at autopsy so that the growth hormone could be extracted and given to children with demonstrated GH
