Pancreas,to insulin-expressing cells initially showed great promise, but the generation of functional β cells has proven extremely difficult and far slower than originally thought. Pancreatic stem cells (PSC) or transdifferentiation of other cell types in the pancreas may therefore provide an alternative renewable source of surrogate β cells.

Neural Progenitors,n operational definition of a stem cell as well as retain engraftability in multiple experimental models. For simplicity sake, we will refrain from the stem vs. progenitor debate [46-51] and simply refer to both neural stem and progenitor cells as NPCs from here forward.
