Prospects for a Distributed Research Network: Case Studies of Means, Mechanisms and Issuesed. Further, the issues related to their application have yet to be fully addressed. This paper offers a vision of the future of HPC networking: Experimental implementations of emergent network technologies (e.g. Java/RMI/CORBA) are exmained to identify barriers to fruitful cooperation in a fully integrated HPC network.

Communication Latency Hiding in Reconfigurable Message-Passing Environments: Quantitative Studiesubsequent communication requests. Communication latency is hidden through reconfiguring the network concurrently to the computation. Quantitative results obtained from standard parallel benchmarks run on IBM SP systems are also presented.
