Najine Amelie obtained using the proposed method, and the bubble-tissue ratio was improved by 8.3 dB as compared with the conventional second-harmonic method. In animal experiments, the tissue echoes were adequately suppressed as compared with conventional second-harmonic images.

The -3dB and -6dB contours of the acoustic field show that an apodised transducer shows a large depth of field, a very desirable result if medical images are to be obtained from deep structures without lowering the ultrasound frequency.
