Understanding Treatment: Principles and Approachesms and interventions. In particular, treatment providers should strongly advocate for psychotherapy, recognize which therapies are effective for particular problems, and coordinate closely with other professionals, especially if clients are prescribed medications. Professionals should also cultivate sensitivity to diversity.

Eating Disorders and emotions. Obesity in adolescents is a risk factor for various forms of disordered eating (Neumark-Sztainer, Wall, Story, & Sherwood, 2009), and obesity may be the outcome of disordered eating in a minority of adolescents. Nevertheless, obesity is not an eating disorder per se.
