A controller is said to exhibit good robust stability if it remains stable for all variations in plant behaviour which are reasonably expected to occur. Similarly a controller is said to exhibit good robust performance if it carries on performing satisfactorily for all encountered plant variations.

The GVAM design example presented here uses only one key parameter, namely airspeed. Each of the linear controller designs is therefore assigned to a particular airspeed range.
