Currently no study has been published about pathogenic viruses infecting euphausiids, and they should be investigated in the future. However, the presence of multifunctional enzymes suggests that euphausiids do have physiological defences against viruses.

Jean-Marie Saudubray,ángeles García-Cazorlaceive that the combined genetic information of diverse and numerous symbiotic microorganisms far exceeds that of their krill hosts. Bacteria play significant physiological roles as trophic symbionts and sometimes as opportunistic pathogens of krill. These functional and dysfunctional associations must be studied further.
