Calculation of Glacier Ablation from Air Temperature, West Greenland,be expressed by using a lower degree-day factor for snow than for ice..Ablation can also be calculated from summer mean temperature although less accurately than using positive temperature sums. For example, ablation will increase substantially if summer temperatures rise due to greenhouse-effect warming of the atmosphere.

On the Blowing Snow in Adelie Land, Eastern Antarctica,nd speed, a result previously reported..We know the annual wind speed from an automatic weather station (AWS), which reports over satellite year round. Hence we were able to calculate the annual mass flux of snow; a value of 6.3 × 10. kg m. a. was found, which is a credible value for a windy area (mean annual wind speed 12.8 m/s).

Altitudinal Shift of the Equilibrium Line in Greenland Calculated from Heat Balance Characteristics depending on the gradient of cumulative accumulation. For a disturbance Sc = +100 kgm . the altitudinal shift of the equilibrium line amounts to ?78 m < Δh < ?48 m. Regions with negative gradient of cumulative accumulation react essentially more sensitive as regions with positive gradient.
