Comparison of Existing Theories on the Function of Germinal Centerstly of small and medium lymphocytes. The former was named “Keimzentrum” or germinal center by Flemming in 1885. Flemming observed the high mitotic activity of the germinal center and concluded that this area was actively forming lymphocytes.
