The Precambrian of West Africa — synthesis and reviewowever, has had more to do with levels of erosion, relative abundance of different rock types, climatic changes, erosion levels and intensity of weathering than with the fundamentals of global tectonics. Rock associations remain the most important control on the occurrence of mineral deposits.

Economic potential of the younger sedimentary basins are generally not so large or abundant as in basement terranes, but include ores of lead, zinc, iron and manganese, and there may also be some bauxite. Smaller deposits of these various resources are already exploited on a small scale.
