Influence of the nitrogen level on root growth and morphology of two potato varieties differing in nuisition (‘Astrid’) had a significantly larger root system. The larger root system of ‘Astrid’ compared to ‘Bodenkraft’ was particularly evident when surface area and total length of the roots, instead of root dry weight were used as parameters. The results stress the importance of root length and surface area for nitrogen acquisition from soils.

The effect of shoot and root genotype on phosphorus concentrations of shoots and roots, there was a significant scion × rootstock × P level interaction for shoot % P. This along with other evidence suggests that conflicting results regarding effects of scion and rootstock on % P content of plants within species is probaby due to the interaction of scion and rootstock with environment.

Concentrations of N, P, and K and dry matter mass in maize inbred linesging from 40 to 70%. The differences in element concentration were more expressed in aboveground parts than in root. On the average, concentrations of elements increased as that of nutrient solution increased.
