Concentration-action Relations I,The following three chapters (8, 9 and 10) give an account of the manner in which the actions of drugs on cells can be classified according to the relations observed between the concentration of the drug and the action produced. This relation has been chosen as the basis of classification for the following reasons.

Quantitative Pharmacology and the Theory of Humoral Transmission,The physiological importance of acetylcholine and adrenaline has caused these drugs to be the subject of very extensive research and, hence, there is a large amount of quantitative evidence regarding their mode of action. It is of interest to consider what light this evidence throws on the theory of the humoral transmission of the nervous impulse.

Special Problems Relating to Variation of Populations,Many points regarding the variation of populations have been discussed in previous chapters, but the variation of individuals in response to drugs is a problem of such great theoretical and practical importance that certain points deserve a more detailed consideration.
