The Symposium constituted the Southern Sectional Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. The Program Coordinators, Drs. Frank Bajandas and Barbara Brooks invited an outstanding group of participants to give presentations on a variety of aspects of this subject. This volume contains all of the invited presentations delivered at that meeting. It does not include the excellent free papers, nor the enthusiastic and fruitful discussions that the participants and the audience enjoyed as well. The editorial work for this book was performed by Dr. Brooks and Dr. Bajandas with great care and efficiency.
