Residual Currents in the Peconic Bays Estuary,fluctuations which are presumably meteorologically forced. Analysis of current fluctuations at longer periods suggest that tidal rectification contributes to the residual circulation in the vicinity of certain moorings.

These different forcing mechanisms in conjunction with the dissimilar geometries, lead to different circulation patterns. These two particular estuaries provide examples of the wide range of circulation patterns found in estuaries.
