New enzymatic properties in organic media,aqueous media without focusing on the mechanistic aspects of this phenomenon (Oyama et al., 1981; Yokozeki et al., 1982). Not until a fundamental study of a large number of biocatalysts had been undertaken (see Klibanov, 1986, for a review) was enzymatic catalysis in non-aqueous media accepted and recognized as a general phenomenon.
