Origin of the Black Sea, that it resulted from a continuous uplift and erosion of a landmass. A fourth model indicated that it resulted from strike-slip fault activities. The most favourite model is the back-arc opening. In these models various age estimates, ranging from pre-Cambrian to Quaternary have been proposed, although mid-Cretaceous has gained a wide support.
