On the Foundations of the History of Optics, of any field of enquiry, it may try to shed light on the psychology of the enquirer; besides, it may exhibit the logical structure of theories, and from it derive how they may develop. To follow how such possibilities happen to be realized by this or that enquirer is an especially engaging task.
