Complement C3 as a Target of Host Modulation in Periodontitislly administered drug (Cp40/AMY-101) was shown to suppress both induced and naturally occurring periodontitis in non-human primates. Thus, C3-targeted intervention represents a promising host-modulation approach to treat human periodontitis.

The Function of the Oral Microbiome in Health and Diseaseiome. In the second section, we focus on the transition from a commensal to a dysbiotic microbiome in the major oral diseases: caries and periodontal diseases. Finally, in the third section, we describe the role of members of the oral microbiome in systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
