Extinction Treatment in Polarized Neutron Experimentsf this exercise. We shall consider the primary extinction correction y. (Eqs.18 and 19) as a constant given in the data. Its formulation in Becker-Coppens treatment is only phenomenological, but has the advantage that the integrated intensity P becomes proportional to the structure factor when the extinction parameter x.→ ∞.

Diffraction by Real Crystals : II. Extinctiones, especially a review by the author (Becker, 1977a). I would like here to present a few fundamental aspects of the problem, rather than a comprehensive study. In particular, computational aspects will not be considered, since they have been extensively discussed elsewhere (Becker and Coppens, 1974a,b, 1975).

Magnetic Neutron Scatteringse two and it may be better to consider scattering simply as the response of a radiation field to a non-uniform potential. In the case of interest in this lecture the radiation field is a beam of neutrons and the non-uniform potential is provided by the non-uniform magnetic field inside a magnetic material.
