Communities, Chemistry, and Communication: Intellectual Societies in London, Philadelphia, and CharChemists, surgeons, and physicians gathered together to discuss questions and ideas in their respective communities. Intellectual societies in London, Philadelphia, and Charleston did not conform to specific disciplinary boundaries. Objects, as well as people, were able to cross the ocean.
