Hence, this paper proposes an adaptive vertical pixel count algorithm to solve the problem of over-segmentation due to the presence of open characters such as ‘w’, ‘v’ and ‘m’. Proposed algorithm works effectively against both the handwritten and standard text. The proposed method is evaluated on IAM and self-created data set.
