A Simple Introduction to Direct MethodsDirect methods for solving the phase problem in X-ray crystallography . not supposed to work for macromolecules, or on reflection intensity data which do not reach atomic resolution. As a consequence, young protein crystallographers may not have been exposed to direct methods as much as colleagues in the field of “small molecules”.

A Simple Introduction to Patterson Methods methods among crystallographers, and because of that, various terms, definitions, ideas, methods and strategies related to the use of the Patterson function will be shortly discussed.
