When the problem at hand is to derive a set of order (truncation accuracy) condition for Runge-Kutta schemes, more serious Maple programming is required. Rather than “high-level” Maple routines being available, it is largely the “l(fā)ow level” expression manipulation operations that are used.

A conspicuous source of second order problems is mechanics, where the form of Newton’s second law leads directly to a second order equation. An example of this is the harmonic oscillator equation coming from a spring mass system.
