描述Providing a link between theoretical and applied aspects of plant nutrition and agriculture, this book introduces new concepts in plant nutrition. It shows how these can be applied in order to assess the nitrogen status in crops and to improve nitrogen nutrition through optimized N fertilization management. In this way economic benefits can be obtained, while at the same time preventing detrimental effects on the environment. The main agricultural crops - grasses, wheat, barley, Durum wheat, maize, sorghum, grain legumes and potatoes - are covered. The book will be an invaluable source for agronomists.

Grasslandsiversity of conditions leads to large temporal and spatial variations in sward structure: i.e., botanical composition, plant morphology and architecture, plant growth habits, which make it difficult to use a diagnosis of the sward state to predict either its growth potential or its ability to be grazed and to provide adequate feed for animals.

Concluding Remarks: N Hazards to Crops and Environment. It is even rather independent of the crop species, at least if we consider separately plants with a C. or C. metabolism although some small variations within each of these two groups cannot be excluded. It is a unifying concept which can be applied to all arable crops, grasslands, and possibly to forest trees.
