Sediment Grain Parametersolled by the hydrodynamic conditions existing at the time of deposition. There have been repeated attempts to use such grain parameters as environmental indicators. In the following, a short account of various attempts in this direction and their limitations are given.

Glacial Environmentof glacial deposits. This knowledge can be successfully applied in the study of ancient, e.g., pre-Pleistocene glacial deposits. Today, the glacial environment is restricted to areas around the north and south poles, and high mountains in other latitudes covered by snow e. g., the Alps and the Himalayas.
