Shape and Structure of Persistent Slip Bands in Iron Carbon Alloysoped at the specimen surface during fatigue loading. In spite of these early observations only some years ago, major advance has been made in understanding the most important microstructural details of these persistent slip bands (PSB) in fcc single and polycrystals with high stacking fault energies [2–10].

Gerard J. Gianoli,James Soileauvolution of dislocation structures during fatigue of metals is discussed in terms of the elastic strain energy of the structures. The ladders in persistent slip bands and the tangling dislocation dipoles in vein structures are simulated by the Oro-wan loops surrounding inclusions which consist of slip bands with a multiple shell structure.
