Impacts of Air Pollutants on Cold Hardiness considerations towards the development of such search processors are outlined. After an introduction to the system environment and the task profile, the search processor component of the Relational Database Machine RDBM currently under development at the Technical University of Braunschweig is described.

The Silicon Database Machinepports a relational model, and allows concurrent transactions and queries. The number of processors and the database size can be selected to suit the application; the expected range is 3 to 16 processors, and 100 megabytes to 2 gigabytes of data. This paper also gives some preliminary performance results for the SiDBM.

Parallel Operation of Magnetic Disk Storage Devices: Synchronized Disk Interleaving on separate checksum disks in order to improve reliability. In this paper, we study synchronized disk interleaving as a high performance mass storage system architecture. The advantages and limitations of the proposed disk interleaving scheme are analyzed using the M/G/1 queueing model and compared to the conventional disk access mechanism.

The Utah Text Search Engine: Implementation Experiences and Future Plansotype retrieval system running on the University of Utah Computer Science Department Apollo workstation network. A new prototype is currently under development. The basic structure of the search engine, the implementation of the two prototypes, and plans for future extensions and improvements are discussed.
