Lorenzo Riccardi,Giorgio RiccardiThe number of men killed by horsekicks in the Prussian Army introduces the Poisson distribution to many students. The illustration was initially given by Bortkewitsch (1898). Winsor (1947) has reproduced the original tables with some discussion. Bishop, Fienberg and Holland (1975) also discuss the data.
