Ensemble-Averaged Large Scale Structure in the Turbulent Mixing Layer,around one another and coalescing in pairs to form a disturbance with twice the spacing and half the frequency. After four such sequential pairings in a distance of 1.5 meters, the mixing layer has grown in thickness by a factor of 16 and is no longer thin compared to the scale of the apparatus.
