The Individual Dislocation: Geometrical Basis,the line, the Burgers vector (strength of the dislocation), the relative orientation of these two, possible movements of dislocations and their relations to Moiré patterns. These latter are a convenient means for understanding many of the basic dislocation phenomena.

Interaction between a Dislocation and its Surroundings,ear in the form of an external stress field acting on the dislocation. The forces which can move the dislocation originate from this stress field. In this chapter a representation of the stress field will first be given and afterwards the forces on a dislocation will be discussed.
