Sediment Recycling at Convergent Margins: Constraints from the Cosmogenic Isotope 10Be,ts contained within grabens are presumed to be subducted, then the global sediment subduction rate is 2–5 × 10. km./Ma; model calculations suggest that 11–14% of the subducted sediment is recycled in volcanic arcs and that the remainder is available for subduction deep into the earth.

Volatiles and Stable Isotopes in Recycling,heir fluxes if they are not too much affected by the processes of dissolution and outgassing. We shall review in the next pages, first some of the isotope aspects, then some chemical characteristics of the fluids involved in outgassing of the mantle, and of those possibly recycled.
