ModellingAs we have seen with systematic desensitization, controlled exposure to the phobic situation, either in reality or in imagery and thought, is a valuable component of effective treatment. However, highly phobic individuals are, by definition, reluctant to confront the source of the fears.

Systematic Desensitizationprocedures. The first is the case of Albert reported by Watson and Rayner (1920). They provided a classical demonstration of the development of a phobia in a young child. Having first ascertained that it was a neutral object, they presented an 11 month-old boy, Albert, with a white rat to play with.
