,The Hard Component of μ-Mesons in the Atmosphere,improved measurements have been extended to include the momentum and mass spectrum both at sea level and at various altitudes above sea level. Although the origin of the cosmic rays remains obscure a fairly satisfactory picture of their development through the atmosphere emerges.

Wenyan Liu,Jun Zhang,Xinghua Sun,Hongbo Zhuc investigation of the phenomenon started only after .’s pioneer experiments. had demonstrated the efficacy of counter techniques in this field, and the analysis of . . and of . . had established beyond doubt that these “penetrating showers” are indeed a new cosmic-ray phenomenon distinct from the ascades of electrons and photon.

Theory of the Geomagnetic Effects of Cosmic Radiation,ich includes predominantly protons and bare nuclei from helium to iron, all positively charged particles. It is only in the last few years that attempts have been made to work out the motion of such particles in the second approximation to the geomagnetic field, by introducing both the dipole and quadrupole terms.
