Copper proteins and their role as antioxidants in human inflammatory conditions,u, Mo, Mn, and Co have an essential role. Fe and Cu as transition metals are particularly suited to catalyse redox reactions, mainly because they possess labile d-electron configurations and thus have a range of accessible oxidation states enabling them to transfer electrons.
