Supporting tools presented include integrated system simulation; multidisciplinary optimization; model synthesis and reduction; and sharing of tasks and data across a distributed computing network.

World-Class Concurrent Engineering, enhanced quality function deployment (enhanced QFD), and quality engineering using robust design (Taguchi methods). This replaces the many dysfunctions, some of which are elegant, of traditional practice. The result is much better functionality, lower costs, and shorter development time.

In the second part of the paper the efforts in the DICE (DARPA Initiative in Concurrent Engineering) project to realize virtual teams through a set of generic software services are reviewed.

Storage and Retrieval of Objects for Simulations in Mixed Application Arease and update. This paper explores the adaptation of iconic graphical user interface based systems to achieve the necessary rapid prototyping required for parallel product development. To achieve this model definition, interfaces standards and storage in a set of discipline related object oriented databases is proposed.
