Semantics of non-terminating rewrite systems using minimal coverings,the rules when seen as equations. This extends the benefits of algebraic semantics to systems with non-deterministic and non-terminating computations. We first study properties of abstract orders, and then instantiate these to term rewriting systems.

An evolving algebra abstract machine,analysis and execution of EA specifications. We give a formal definition of the EAM ground model in terms of a ., where we validate the correctness of the relation between evolving algebras (their theoretical foundations) and their EAM representation and interpretation. Our approach covers sequential as well as distributed evolving algebras.

Languages and logical definability in concurrency monoids,ed sets. Under suitable assumptions on ., we show that a language . in M(.) is recognizable iff it is definable by a formula of monadic second order logic. We also investigate the relationship between aperiodic and first-order definable languages in M(.). This generalizes various recent results in trace theory.
