Problem of Level Densities in Compound Nuclear Reactionsat the main source of uncertainties of level density models is due to limited experimental base the models use for their parameterizations, namely data on neutron resonances. This and other types of experimental data are reviewed and further developments are suggested.

Nuclear Shell Model and Level Densityin the smooth energy behavior of the level density. In particular, the popular “constant temperature model” gives a good description of the results but turns out to be unrelated to the suggested pairing phase transition reflecting the fast chaotization of many-body dynamics.

We have compared the results of codes from LLNL, LANL, ORNL, JAEA, CEA, along with Tsinghua and Notre Dame Universities, and report on the results of these comparisons for fitting .?=?7 scattering data..A method is demonstrated to include the absorption to higher-energy two-body and breakup channels with energy-dependent damping widths.
