Observations on the Neural Rhythmicity in the Cockroach Cardiac Ganglionels of the cockroach. It seems appropriate to adopt this new terminology, since the ganglia have been previously referred to in the literature as the lateral heart nerves.*, aortal nerves., lateral cardiac nerves., and lateral cardiac nerve cords.. These diffuse ganglia, each containing 15–20 intrinsic neurons., have an elongate shape.

Pacemaker regions at the ends of the tunicate heart have not yet been investigated with microelectrodes but since most cells can develop pacemaker properties when isolated from the primary pacemakers there may be only a quantitative difference between all cells..

Lunar enterprises and development, cell which is seen to beat must be initiating its own activity, and may thus be defined as a pacemaker.. Moreover, such a cell, within 5–30 min after coming into contact with a more slowly beating neighbor, may cause that neighbor to beat in synchrony with it.

The Structure and Function of the Intercalated Disc in Vertebrate Cardiac Muscleercellular cement. Following these earlier descriptions, a number of subsequent investigators demonstrated intercalated discs in preparations of adult cardiac muscle and attributed these structures to cell boundaries (e.g. see .-.., .. and ..).
