Fundamentals of Spatial Statistics,in geology a complete branch of statistics has been termed geostatistics and a very specific terminology has developed there. This chapter gives an overview over those geostatistical concepts that are relevant for the design issue and relates them to a classical statistics point of view.

Sheridan and Goldsmith: Heavenly Twins,owever, such designs are of limited use in the spatial setting, where the essential factors, the coordinates, are continuous rather than discrete (they may be still useful for so-called neighboring problems, see Martin (1996) for a review).
