The results have implications for quantum information processing, for probing and manipulation of Bose-Einstein condensates, and for nonlinear optics.

All optical formation of a Bose Einstein condensate,vely cooling through the BEC transition is achieved by lowering the power in the trapping beams over ~2 s. The resulting condensates are F=l spinors with 3.5 × 10. atoms distributed between the m. =(?1,0,1) states.

In condensed matter physics, negative transmission times of atoms are possible through superfluid helium slabs and through atomic BECs. Relativity is not violated by these phenomena.
