Investigation of Dynamic Fracture Behavior of Additively Manufactured Al-10Si-Mg Using High-Speed Sility compared to the cast specimens under dynamic tension. The microstructures of the samples were characterized by synchrotron X-ray tomography. The correlation between the dynamic fracture behavior of the samples and the microstructure of the samples was analyzed and discussed.

Based on these observations, we hypothesize that there are two interconnected mechanisms at play: The crack is slow enough that the gel “sees” the stress concentrations at the crack tip and water is forced out of the gel while there is also time for viscoelastic and plastic processes to occur.
