A modest literature exists on the sedimentology and diagenesis of these reservoirs (...., Stafford, 1954; Myers, ..., 1956; Thornton and Gaston, 1968; Thomas, 1970; Vest, 1970; Toomey and Winland, 1973; Randolph, 1974).

Depositional Facies, Diagenetic Terranes, and Porosity Development in Lower Ordovician Ellenburger Dh an initial production of 12 million cubic feet of gas per day (340,000 m.) and 38 barrels of oil per day, from perforations in the Ellenburger Dolomite (Lower Ordovician) at 13,700 to 14,285 feet (4165–4343 m) (Blanchard, 1977). As of January 1979, the field had 35 producing wells.

Silurian Reservoirs in Upward-Shoaling Cycles of the Hunton Group, Mt. Everette and Southwest ReedinN, R6W) discovered hydrocarbons in the Hunton Group at Mt. Everette-Southwest Reeding. Hydrocarbon production from the Hunton in these fields is from skeletal-buildup, oolite-shoal, and sub-unconformity reservoirs. Ultimate recoveries per well from these three Hunton reservoirs are roughly 42,500, 7000, and 7000 barrels of oil, respectively.

Introduction.. (1970) cite 116 fields, or 44 percent, that produce substantially or entirely from carbonate reservoirs. A review of the statistics suggests that these carbonate reservoirs contain about 61 percent of the recoverable oil in giant fields.
