Global Synthesis1astal or margin dimensions (e.g., distance from the shoreline to the 130m isobath; Wollast 1998; Mackenzie et al. 2004). However, many important transport processes that are directly associated with the margin often extend across these depth boundaries and the resulting budgets may not fully represent the role of margins in biogeochemical cycles.
