Hair Cells and the Origin of the Hearing Inner Ear,ystems. All or most of these properties undoubtedly have their origin very early in the evolution of the vertebrates. Comparative paleontological, morphological and ontogenic studies all point to part of the lateral line system as the origin of the inner ear.
